CHAZ DAVIES was born in Knighton in 1987. Not yet 20, he is one of Wales' brightest sporting stars of the future.
A motorcycling prodigy, he was only a toddler when he first took an interest in racing after his father Pete - a motorbike enthusiast - built a go-kart circuit in the back garden for his son.
By the time he was seven, Chaz had learned to ride mini-bikes and the following year he took part in his first competitive race at the Mini Moto British Junior Championship. The following year Chaz returned to win the championship.
When Chaz was 12, he was given special dispensation to take part in the Aprilla Challenge 125cc Championship at Donnington Park where he finished sixth and was the only rider to finish every race in the points during the championship.
In 2001, he became the youngest-ever winner of a British Championship race before breaking another record the following year by becoming the youngest ever full-time grand prix entrant in the 125cc World Championship at the age of 15.
During 2003 Chaz stepped-up to the 250cc class after signing with the Aprilia Germany Team and once again made his mark by becoming one of the youngest-ever competitors in the 250cc GP World Championship and the youngest rider to score points in a 250cc GP race.
But it's not all play for Davies, who took his GCSEs in 2003 along with fellow pupils at Presteigne's John Beddoes School. However, unlike his fellow pupils, Chaz sat his exams in a classroom near the Mugello motor bike circuit in Italy where he was competing in the Italian Grand Prix.
Chaz continued to ride with the same team for 2004 and 2005. Arguably the UK's brightest young Grand Prix talent, Davies has now racked up four full years of world championship experience. He is currently riding for Aprilia Germany, making 2006 his fifth year in Grand Prix Racing and fourth year in the quarter litre class!
